Are you ready for everything you thought you knew about clay masks to be redefined? Enter: the Superclay Purify + Clear Power Mask. A cool, modern take on traditional clay masks, it deep cleans and clarifies without disrupting the skin’s moisture barrier, simultaneously working to balance and actually strengthen your skin’s barrier. Its unique formula is made up of three different types of clay—french green, volcanic, and white clay— and then supercharged with 2% niacinamide, kombucha black tea ferment, red willow bark, and BHA (salicylic acid). Blue algae has a high concentration of antioxidant vitamins and minerals and gives the clay blend its dazzling blue tint.
The Superclay Purify + Clear Power Mask earns its name through its powerhouse ingredients. What could be better than a mask that does it all? A four-step routine to go with it to maximize its results, courtesy of Youth To The People’s Director of Education, Laura Cline.
CLEANSE
Cline recommends using the Superclay Purify + Clear Power Mask after cleansing with the Superfood Cleanser, which does the essential prep work for any skincare routine: cleansing effectively without overstripping and keeping the skin’s pH balanced.
APPLY MASK
After patting drying your skin, Cline advises applying a moderate, even layer of the Superclay Purify + Clear Power Mask and wearing it for up to 10 minutes. Once applied, the mask’s active ingredients immediately begin to penetrate pores, break down sebum, gently exfoliate, and grab onto excess oil as it dries.
“It will dry, but it has a lovely, comfortable, flexible dry down,” explains Cline. “Depending on your skin type, you could use the mask one to three times a week. For oily or acne-prone skin, I would use it more frequently for regular maintenance.”
The mask can be used preventatively or as an on-the-spot solution for breakouts. Its instant absorption of excess oils makes it ideal for combination to oily skin types, but is safe for all skin types to use, especially since dry skin can experience congestion, too. Cline recommends drier skin types to use the mask as a targeted treatment on areas of concern instead of applying over the entire face.
After your ten-minute timer goes off, rinse with room temperature water.
BONUS STEP: BRIGHTEN WITH SERUM
The mask directly addresses congestion, but if you want a product that helps with the post-acne marks or discolorations from a blemish, Cline suggests using the 15% Vitamin C + Clean Caffeine Energy Serum, which has both brightening and firming benefits.
MOISTURIZE
Finish with the Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream, which Cline recommends due to its lightweight gel cream texture, antioxidant-rich and anti-inflammatory formula, and its all-star ingredient: hyaluronic acid.
“You get this big drink of water for your skin and a cooling, soothing effect right away,” she says. “We need to use products that help encourage our natural cell turnover cycle and the mask does that. These other products are essentials to help keep skin clean, hydrated, and balanced.”
