Hey friend! Welcome back to “Ask an Esti” - a forum where we discuss all things skincare! It’s finally summertime, and something tells me it’s going to be a great one! Pools, cookouts, family reunions, amusement parks, nature trails, vacations. I know I’m not the only one planning to do it all, but before you get in the groove and start packing your carry-ons and day bags, let’s chat about what products to include to keep your skin healthy while you’re on the go.
Cleanse
In my opinion, cleansing is one of the top 2 most important steps, and it’s not #2. Cleansing helps to keep your pores free of excess oils, dirt, and bacteria that can lead to blackheads and breakouts. If you’re reapplying SPF, sweating, being active outside, or simply exposed to any environmental stressors from high temperatures, cleansing is crucial for you this summer. I recommend cleansing twice daily, AM and PM, for 30-60 seconds with a gentle cleanser that will keep your skin hydrated and balanced without stripping. For those who have tried the Superfood Cleanser, I’m sure you can attest to why one sells every minute with over 4,000 5-star reviews. It’s dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested (*whispers* all of our products are) to remove SPF and makeup, including around the eyes. It’s also suitable for all skin types. For those who have drier skin or want to remove makeup and SPF, I recommend starting by adding one pump of cleanser to dry hands then gently massaging onto dry face and adding water gradually. Remember that whatever you do to your face, you should do to your neck. Yes, even those of us with beards.
Treat
I recommend following with a serum to target your skin concerns. I almost always recommend incorporating the 15% Vitamin C + Caffeine Energy Serum because it’s a lightweight, ultra-stable vitamin c complex with yerba mate caffeine that targets dullness, dark spots, and fine lines + wrinkles while hydrating. I recommend applying 2-4 pumps to your face and neck in your AM routine to leave the skin instantly looking more radiant and energized.
For those with drier or more dehydrated skin, I recommend pairing with the Triple Peptide + Cactus Oasis Serum for an added boost of hydration, firming, and plumping. If you’re experiencing issues with your barrier like sensitivity and redness, uneven tone, or simply wanting to enhance your glow for pics and videos, I recommend pairing with the Superfood Skin Drip Smooth + Glow Barrier Serum. All these options will keep your skin hydrated, visibly healthy, and glowing for any activity you have planned this summer. They also all go well under make-up for a smooth, pill-free, pearl canvas. The Skin Drip Serum can even be used as a primer or mixed in with moisturizer or foundation.
Exfoliate
Exfoliation is the step that can get a little tricky for some. As a rule of thumb, I always recommend starting slow and increasing frequency as needed. Exfoliation is pivotal for cell renewal, which is when dead skin cells shed and reveal a new outer layer of skin. Exfoliation in combination with your treatment serums are how you see even better results. For the summer, I recommend less frequent use if you know you’ll be exposed to more direct and aggressive sunlight. Exfoliating makes the skin more sensitive to UV rays – hence the importance of SPF, always. My personal favorite exfoliant for the summertime is the Yerba Mate Resurfacing Energy Facial because it’s gentle, uses physical and chemical exfoliation, and leaves the skin feeling softer and smoother with more radiance after one use. However, if you need some help deciding the best exfoliant for you, I recommend checking out this article discussing which exfoliator is right for you, or booking a Skin Session for us to chat.
Moisturize
Finally, I know this summer will be hot and lots of people are concerned about using moisturizer that may cause them to sweat or clog the pores, but I urge you not to skip this step. Moisturizer is the key for locking in hydration. It helps in preventing excess oil production, dryness, redness, fine lines + wrinkles – to name a few. I recommend trying the Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream in your AM and PM routines this summer. It’s an oil-free, lightweight, and fragrance-free moisturizer that instantly hydrates without clogging the pores. It’s suitable for all skin types, and especially recommended for those with oilier and/or acne-prone skin. For those a bit on the drier side, I recommend adding 1-4 drops of the Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Oil to boost the hydration throughout the day and night. This oil is rich in antioxidants and can be added to serums, moisturizers, or used alone for a beautiful glow to the skin without clogging the pores or feeling heavy. It also makes a great beard oil!
To round it all out, make sure you’re protecting the skin with a broad spectrum SPF30 or higher. Reapply every 2 hours if you’ll be exposed to UV rays through outdoor activity, windows, or driving, regardless of weather, but especially this summer. Also, if you’re anything like me and you want your skincare going through TSA with you, I recommend checking out The Youth System for travel-size minis. Also, if it’s 3.4 fl oz. or smaller, you’re good to go (*whispers* almost all our products fit the criteria).
I hope you’ve been enjoying “Ask an Esti”, and you’re continuously leaving understanding the “why” behind the “what”. This summer we’ll be discussing all the tips to making your face, and body, it’s healthiest and glowiest yet! Until next time, remember, Healthy skin starts with Superfoods!
