If you’ve never heard of rambutan or its amazing properties and benefits in skincare, worry not—and read on!
We spoke with Youth To The People’s Product Development Manager , Quan Tran, to break down everything you need to know about rambutan, how it protects the skin’s moisture barrier and how it is used in YTTP’s brand new Triple Peptide + Cactus Oasis Serum . You definitely need to add rambutan to your skincare routine, ASAP.
According to Tran, rambutan is a nutrient-rich hairy superfruit that comes from Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, and Tran’s native country, Vietnam. Rambutan contains essential minerals, vitamins, and proteins such as vitamin C, calcium, iron, phosphorus, copper, and carbohydrates that play a major role in helping protect against damage from environmental factors such as pollution and sun damage .
“The rambutan flesh is delicious,” says Tran, “but rambutan peel is inedible due to bitter taste and rough texture.”
Rambutan is known for its sweet yet slightly sour taste, which is often compared to a cross between a grape and date. Rambutan peel and its seed are packed with nutrients, but they are typically inedible. When it comes to skincare, rambutan is a powerful ingredient that can work wonders on your skin.
“This ingredient helps strengthen skin barrier, re-energize skin, and provides a moisture-lock system to protect skin against environmental changes,” says Tran.
Rambutan is also known to support natural ceramide production and rejuvenates the skin for an optimal skin barrier function. It’s qualities like this that makes rambutan the perfect ingredient to incorporate to the Triple Peptide + Cactus Oasis Serum , a super hydrating and vegan hyaluronic acid serum.
Rambutan peel extract has moisture-binding prosperities that lock in hydration and strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier. Combined with cactus elixir, found in the Triple Peptide + Cactus Oasis Serum , these plant extracts help the skin hold onto hydration longer, especially during the colder months. Hydration is key to protecting skin’s moisture barrier from environmental factors, slowing signs of premature aging, and getting that timeless glow.
As for where it comes from, Tran explains:
“We sourced rambutan peel extract from a raw material supplier partner who monitors the harvest with local independent farmers. They promote sustainable agricultural practices that respect the local ecosystem and ensure higher incomes and specific training of Vietnamese workers. This is a great sustainable sourcing program.”
You can find rambutan in YTTP’s Triple Peptide + Cactus Oasis Serum , the ultimate vegan hydrating serum that does more .
