With a love for cosmetics from a young age, my curiosity knew that there was much more to the goop inside the jar than meets the eye. I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Analytical Chemistry and moved to California to chase my dreams of becoming a cosmetic chemist, passionate about developing results-driven skincare. Question: What's in Youth To The People's superfood blend?
When researching new innovations in vegan skincare, it always comes down to two things: efficacy and quality. It takes a lot of research (something we’re constantly doing for the benefit of our skincare) and many trials to perfect a high quality, efficacious cleanser, moisturizer, serum, or mask. The same goes for our proprietary extract blends. We invest in our ingredients to make sure the supergreens we use for our superfood skincare family are high-quality, organic, and efficacious. We maintain that efficacy through our extract processes to ensure our superfood skincare is full of important, skin-healthy nutrients for which they’re known.
KALE
We use both organic kale oil because it is rich in vitamins, and organic kale extract for its nutrient density in our skincare. Our skin loves omega fatty acids because they help protect it from transepidermal water loss, keeping it moisturized with omega-3 fatty acids. (Those blue-green leaves are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, fat soluble beta carotene, and phylloquinone, as well as packed with antioxidants like ascorbic acid, polyphenols, and bioflavonoids that help to neutralize free radicals!) Utilizing both types of extracts helps to maximize the benefits of kale in skincare.
ALFALFA
Organic alfalfa extract contains many different types of antioxidants (including saponins, polyphenols, phytosterols, and riboflavin) that scavenge for free radicals. Having this herbal extract in our skincare helps to ward off signs of premature aging and fights environmental stressors.
SPINACH
Organic spinach extract not only contains a healthy dose of chlorophyll, but necessary vitamins like folate and riboflavin, and minerals like copper and potassium. Chlorophyll’s green pigment not only looks pretty, but also offsets visible redness in the skin. Adding a daily dose of vitamins to the mix keeps the skin barrier functioning well.
CHAMOMILE
Organic chamomile extract is well known for its soothing properties, and that has a lot to do with its antioxidant activity, primarily from a flavonoid called apigenin. Just like a cup of chamomile tea helps to boost our overall immunity, chamomile extract in our skincare helps to calm redness and fight signs of fatigue.
GREEN TEA
Organic green tea is not only full of polyphenolic compounds, like catechins, but it has some of the highest concentrations of natural ECGC, which is a robust flavonoid that reduces free radicals in the body. It also has similar soothing properties to antioxidants found in chamomile, and can exhibit even better delivery when paired with caffeine. Caffeine is a great skincare ingredient and green tea has shown to depuff areas of water retention, like the area around the eyes.
