How to Accelerate Every Product in Your Routine

22 Apr 2020

We all dread the day when our skincare routine seems to stop working. Sorting a range of products into a well-curated routine is no small feat, and when your perfect routine stops short of the results it used to deliver, it’s disappointing, to say the least. Youth To The People’s Director of Education Laura Cline has been there, done that, and knows quite well how to accelerate every product in your routine. It takes the addition of one simple step.

“Make sure to exfoliate,” Cline says. “That way, when you apply your products, they’re not being blocked by any dull, dead skin cells.”

It’s also important to use an effective cleanser and a hydrating mist, she notes. By priming your skin and giving it a clean surface, cleared of makeup or sunscreen, your serums and moisturizers will be able to lock in more hydration.

A resurfacing treatment like Youth To The People’s dual-action exfoliant, the Yerba Mate Resurfacing Energy Facial, re-energizes your skin and your routine.

“When you do a complete resurfacing treatment like that, there’s basically little to no chance that you have any of those dull, dead skin cells left on the surface that would be blocking the rest of your skincare from working,” Cline says. “You’re helping with that natural cell turnover process which is what will help other products, for example, a brightening ingredient like vitamin C, as found in the Superfood Firm + Brighten Serum, work better.”

One of the most effective, stable (and our favorite) forms of vitamin C is THD Ascorbate, as found in YTTP’s Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask. One half of the Power of Dreams Kit, the Dream Mask is most effective after an exfoliant like the Kombucha +11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner

“The kombucha is hydrating your skin at the same time it is encouraging cell turnover,” Cline says. “It’s sloughing off dull, dead skin, revealing brighter skin, while vitamin C helps with firming and brightening.”

Aside from exfoliating, Cline suggests making a face mask a part of your weekly routine.

“Use treatment masks based on what’s going on with your skin and your skin’s needs at that moment, because that can change based on conditions or climate or lifestyle,” she says. “Take into account what your skin is doing and what it needs. You might have to adjust some products, but it doesn’t mean that you need to change your entire routine.”
