What are the benefits of vitamin C?

For the uninitiated, vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps to protect the skin against damage caused by free radicals, unstable, reactive molecules containing an unpaired electron. Exposure to free radicals contributes to the aging process including increased dark spots, fine lines, and wrinkles.

“When used topically, vitamin C can have depuffing and anti-aging effects,” shares LoGerfo. “It can help rejuvenate fine wrinkles and brighten skin tone.” And it’s as effective for your eye area as it is for the skin on your face.

The good news, generally speaking, yes! It is safe to use vitamin C around the eyes, but it’s important to consider each product individually, as well as the fact that this specific area is the thinnest skin on the body.

“Because of its thin nature, it is a very vulnerable area,” adds LoGerfo. She recommends applying any safe vitamin C product around the eyes using the ring finger to ensure the most gentle pressure possible when applying.
