Maybe you’ve heard the word in passing at your local health food store, seen it on the wall at your favorite smoothie spot, or maybe you’re waiting for an explanation of just what makes spirulina so great (and why we like it in our skincare).
Spirulina is a naturally occuring nutrient-rich algae that commonly grows in the ocean and salty subtropical lakes. It’s deep green color comes from the pigment phycocyanin, which also gives spirulina it’s high antioxidant level. Spirulina also offers a natural source of essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals - all of which make it excellent for skin health.
Antioxidants help to defend against the aging effects of pollution and environmental stressors, which is why we included it in our Superfood Face Mask. Skin that looks and feels dull, tired, stressed is revived with a dose of nourishing phytonutrients.
