Powered by superfoods and proven by science, each Youth To The People formula is created responsibly, which means it’s good for you and good for the planet. This responsibility touches all corners of the brand—from the way we source ingredients and formulate (then package and ship) products to the way we build our team and work to create change in our industry.
As YTTP’s co-founders Greg Gonzalez and Joe Cloyes remember their grandma Eva—a pioneer in professional-grade formulas—used to say, “If you’re lucky enough to have a platform, then use it for positive change.” Though we can never be fully sustainable as a consumer goods company, we can be conscious of and remain accountable for our impact on the world, and we can use our platform—our responsibility—for positive change.
INGREDIENT SOURCING + PRODUCT MANUFACTURING
When we say our 100% vegan formulas are responsibly made, we mean we’re hyper-focused on utilizing the lowest-impact, most sustainable methods of creating high-performance products without hurting the environment or communities adjacent to our supply chains. And when researching, sourcing, and manufacturing ingredients to create each YTTP product, we ask questions from all sides—like, can the ingredient be sourced locally?
“Is this superfood extract organically and sustainably farmed?” asks Joe Cloyes, co-founder of YTTP. “If we choose bioidentical actives or an ingredient born from cosmetic science, how is it made? Oftentimes, it can be better for your skin and the planet to use a bioidentical ingredient, like in the case of hyaluronic acid, which can be made more sustainable—and vegan—by making it in a lab.”
PACKAGING + EMISSIONS
Each of our products (even the sample sizes) come packaged in glass, but we’re determined to make 100% of our packaging recyclable by the end of 2022—as well as make the plastic parts, like the pump on the Superfood Cleanser, from at least 70% post-consumer recycled materials. In the meantime, we’re continuing our commitment to only using FSC-certified paper, which are green-e certified, manufactured with 100% renewable green electricity, and help reduce landfill dependency and deforestation rates.
Based on what we’ve created since launching YTTP in 2015, we plan to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions, and all emissions from future launches will be offset with certified carbon offsets. By 2025, we commit to reducing energy by 25% across all company operations.
COMMUNITY + INDUSTRY
Skincare is just the start. Our goal is always to make real and lasting change in both our community and our industry. Internally, that looks like educating ourselves on social justice, science, and the natural world; prioritizing diversity and inclusion when building our team, creator community, and campaigns; and introducing benefits for our team like five months paid maternity leave, a child care stipend, and free therapy. Our giving programs—To The People Fund, To The Future Fund, and To The Future Fund—support community organizations and nonprofits, with the goal of donating $3 million over the next three years.
In terms of our industry, we’re committed to transparently and freely sharing research and innovation in sustainable practices with other beauty brands—always with the goal of inspiring the industry to reduce its impact on the planet.
“We support all brands who take a stance and try their best to make a difference,” says YTTP co-founder Greg Gonzalez. “Small steps lead to larger steps where collectively we can make a larger positive impact for our planet.”
