Transitioning your skincare routine from summer to fall really only requires swapping two, maybe three products to suit your skin’s needs as the weather gets crisper and drier. Moisturizer is the main one, according to board-certified dermatologist Shari Marchebin, who explains that the skin needs extra hydration during this time of year since humidity levels in the air plummet.
“Instead of using a lighter oil-free lotion like many do in the summer, opt for a thicker, heavier moisturizing cream,” she says. “Look for ceramides, glycerin, and hyaluronic acid, among others, in the list of ingredients.” Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream is a perfect addition as it contains squalane, which mimics the natural oils in our skin to enhance hydration, as well as calming peptide and shea butter.
Another failsafe skincare tip for fall: start using an overnight treatment that replenishes the skin while you snooze. The Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask is a great go-to option for this as the formula is packed with powerhouse hydrators like glycerin, antioxidant-rich vitamin E, and panthenol—a derivative of vitamin B5—as well as allantoin, which is famous for its soothing properties. It also happens to smell naturally sublime.
“Use a gentle cleanser,” is another one of Dr. Marchbein’s major tips when it comes to switching up your skincare routine for fall. Basically, you want to avoid anything harsh or stripping, as this will only dry out the skin even further and can lead to irritation and flaking. Instead, shoot for a pH-balanced cleanser that you know works for your skin year-round. If you haven’t yet, consider trying the Superfood Cleanser, made with gentle, skin-loving ingredients like green tea, kale, spinach, vitamin E, panthenol, and aloe vera. It’s gentle and effective on even the most sensitive of skin types.
If your complexion is on the extra-dry side, particularly with the change in seasons, it could benefit from the addition of an oil to your regimen. Using a few drops of the Superberry Hydrate + Glow Oil as the last step in your routine will lock in the rest of your skincare and help the ingredients absorb better. In addition to moisturizing omegas, it also contains antioxidants to combat free radicals and fade hyperpigmentation. Add 2-3 drops to your skin post moisturizer, or even mix a few drops in before applying.
Other recommendations from Dr. Marchbein: invest in a humidifier, skip the scalding hot showers [learn more about the right temperature to wash your face here], and apply moisturizer fresh out of the shower when your skin is still wet or damp, as this will help increase hydration.
