Knownfor Studio Founder Jordan Lister Takes the Youth Questionnaire

Before co-founding digital arts studio and creative alias Knownfor, Jordan Lister built his career as a creative director and director for brands, with his work leaning heavily on 3D design and computer-generated imagery—like this 3D animation he created in collaboration with Youth To The People for the launch of the new Triple Peptide + Cactus Oasis Serum.

“Working with the YTTP team is an extremely creative and highly collaborative journey on every project,” Lister says. “Freedoms of interpretation are always encouraged and the whole team works together succinctly to tie in each element and the various mediums of the campaign.”

Exploring art within the 3D design space has taken Knownfor from Sotheby’s auctions to features in Christie’s and everywhere in between. As “Knownfor,” Lister creates art for both himself and collectors and uses CGI to tell lighthearted, sometimes humorous, stories.

“The thing that excites me about CGI specifically is the ability to create artistically with the storytelling elements and tools of film. The true to life lens and camera control mixed with the ability to break barriers of reality in design allows for the visual outcome to breach into surrealism,” Lister says, “all while retaining the satisfaction of a very tangible visual feel.”

Below, check out some of Lister’s responses to the Youth Questionnaire.

Question 01: How do you help others?

I do my best to listen. Especially with creatives, I believe one of the most powerful actions to support people is to hear them out.

Question 02: What will your greatest impact be on this earth?

I’ll continue to collaborate with people and brands I admire and reflect as much creative positivity as possible along the way. If there’s any form of a ripple effect to that, I'll be stoked.

Question 03: Where are you most free?

In the ocean and surrounded by good company.

Question 04: When were you recently perfectly content?

It’s impossible but I like to think that drive and passion are fueled by the lack of contentment.

Question 05: What do you dream of?

Destinations, coastal places I’ve been and still desire to go.

Question 06: What does pride mean to you?

Pride to me is the ownership of self. Accepting external recognition in a positive light.

Question 07: Describe something that inspired change in your perspective.

Recognition from people that have inspired me and travel. I love continuous change.

Question 08: What is your coolest trick?

Opening a beer with my ring.

Question 09: What is your favorite memory in nature?

New Zealand, Huka Falls. Reminds me of my childhood and good times with Whānau (Family).

Question 10: Describe your relationship with your ego.

I learn something new about it every year. I’ve come to accept that it will always have slight control over me and I try to use that energy to achieve more and be better.

Question 11: What is your favorite flower or tree, and why?

Silver Fern, Kiwi pride.

Question 12: To you, what is the most soothing sound?

Water in all forms. Rain, waves, and all creatures that live by the sea.

Question 13: What is your most useful affirmation?

Without the mistakes you’ve made in the past, you could never achieve what you can today.

Question 14: If you could encourage others to support something you believe to be universally beneficial, what would it be?

Understand more of what’s happening around your immediate vicinity. Think beyond your own logic. More empathy is the key to everything.

Question 15: What is your personal goal for this year, month, or day?

Take another step closer to a healthier work/life balance.

Question 16: What song lyric, lines of a poem, or other excerpt best describes your outlook?

How Bizarre - OMC. Because life is weird.

Question 17: What colors your view of the world?

The people who inhabit it, the art they create. In all forms, furniture, music, architecture, film.

Question 18: Which is richer: your inner life or outer? Why?

My outer life fluctuates dramatically and rapidly to more extremes than my inner life. I feel a sense of stability in my inner life which I feel grateful for.

Question 19: If your energy were visible to others, what would it look like?

A new friend of mine recently shared their POV on this. “A waterfall,” apparently. I would agree.

Question 20: What does it mean to you to dream beyond?

To dream beyond is to begin to fabricate your surreal state of mind. Thinking about what we can do to bring our dreams into reality.

Question 21: What’s required to achieve true unity?

Truly listening and an authentic attempt at empathy.

Question 22: Is it necessary to have things in common with those who you love?

Always. In some form, it may be less obvious but if you dig deep enough you’ll find it.

Question 24: What does it mean to find yourself?

To find yourself is to come to terms with all factors of who you are, what you can improve on and what you can and can’t control.

Question 27: What does your oasis look like and feel like?

My oasis is a place with my favorite people, old and new friends celebrating each other, and a moment by the ocean with music and mezcal.
