How To Get Naturally Glowing Skin

12 Nov 2021

A natural glow doesn’t always mean a topical, glassy finish to the skin. Most times, a natural glow comes from healthy, refreshed skin—something all skin types are capable of, no matter what your current skin goals are. To achieve that glow, skin needs hydration, exfoliation—a key!—and moisture. Youth To The People’s Director of Field Sales + Education Jacob Tomás del Rosario weighs in on how he would design a guaranteed glowing skin routine.

CLEANSE

The proper first step to any routine is to cleanse.

“Superfood Cleanser leaves the skin feeling more replenished, brightened, and glowy than before you used it,” says del Rosario. The Superfood Cleanser is non-stripping, so it provides a clean base without any irritation. “It is a wash-off product, but it really amps up your routine that follows [and] sets you up for success.”

EXFOLIATE

Next, break down dead skin cells and clear pores with exfoliation that targets texture and tone, like YTTP’s Yerba Mate Resurfacing Energy Facial.

“The Yerba Mate Resurfacing Energy Facial is for someone concerned with texture, being that it's a 360 degree exfoliation experience,” del Rosario explains. The Energy Facial is a quick microdermabrasion treatment—an at-home facial in a jar—that works to soften the surface of the skin with active enzymes from papaya and pineapple.

“You let it sit for two minutes on slightly damp skin, and then add water to the fingertips and start to massage [for] physical exfoliation,” says Rosario. “You're almost gently sandblasting the [dead] skin away. You're getting a mega dose of antioxidants while energizing the skin before you rinse it off.”

HYDRATE + SEAL IN MOISTURE

After exfoliating, it’s important to hydrate the skin so that it retains moisture and is not left drier than it was prior to exfoliation. Now, with a smooth base, serums, moisturizers, and oils can now penetrate the skin deeper, giving the skin the radiant glow we’re aiming for. According to del Rosario, sometimes combining your moisturizer and your oil can create a rich blend of hydration that soothes the skin, gives it bounce, and effectively locks in moisture.

“What I love about the Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream paired with the Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Oil is that you really can blend what's needed for the skin in that moment,” he says. “If you listen to what your skin's telling you, whether you feel that dry, tight sensation, or whether you're overproducing oil, your skin can need different levels of water and oil, depending on so many factors. Typically I use Air-Whip during the day and at night I'll blend two to six drops of Dream Oil into the moisturizer, and cocktail how much moisturizer or oil I want.”

If making a product cocktail isn’t your thing, del Rosario shares that you can simply warm the Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Oil in your hands and press it into moisturized skin as one of the final steps of your routine. “That will give the translucency, brightness, and glow that we're looking for, immediately.”

BEYOND YOUR ROUTINE

There are many steps you can take towards naturally glowing skin that happen away from your vanity.

“Get sleep, drink plenty of water, and eat a well-balanced diet,” Rosario advises. “It's not about downing six glasses of ice cold water in one sitting— it's really about treating your body well and getting rest.”

And of course, always remember to apply SPF during the day to protect your skin from the sun.
